Roosevelt corollary
The Roosevelt corollary was made because Roosevelt thought the Monroe doctrine(a policy that told European countries not to bother the western hemisphere) was not though enough. the issue of this political cartoon is that uncle SAM needs to teach the new countries to behave. the message of this political cartoon is that the new countries can not be taken buy Europe (the others in the far back behind the american flag). some other opinions are that we should welcome the European territories in. the techniques this cartoonist used were exaggeration in uncle Sam's size and labeling on the new countries in the front. this dos not really change my view on American-Imperialism.
The Anexation of Hawaii
The Annexation of Hawaii is because the queen forbid the american sugar farmers the ability to grow sugar. The issue of this political cartoon is that uncle SAM is welcoming the countries to the "dinner table".The cartoonists message is that uncle SAM is luring Hawaii into a trap. Some other opinions for this event is not to hurt or touch Hawaii . The techniques the cartoonist used are the exaggeration in uncle SAM and his wife, and labeling on the "Chairs". This make imperialism look stupid in what it stands for. That is why Hawaii was taken.
The Spanish American War
The Spanish American War was a war to "free" the Cubans. the issue of this political cartoon is that uncle SAM can pick any country he wants and he will get it.The cartoonist's message for this cartoon is that uncle SAM should stop being indecisive and pick or not pick at all. Some other opinions for the Spanish American War is that we can just leave Cuba alone and let theme be. The techniques of this cartoon are labeling on the menu and symbolism on the waiter's cloth This cartoon just makes me think of American-Imperialism as undetectable.
The Panama Canal
The panama canal was a short cut to the pacific ocean. The issue of this political cartoon is that Columbia should have sold panama to us.The cartoonist's message is that Columbia angered Roosevelt. Some other opinions on the Panama canal is that we do not need it and that we can take the long route to the pacific ocean. The techniques the cartoonist used were exaggeration in Roosevelt's size, and labeling on Columbia. This cartoon is making me say that American-Imperialism is not OK at all.Why must we take land and start a war to get what we want. Now you understand the story behind the panama canal.
Open Door Policy
The Open Door Policy was a policy on china that forbid people to have monopoly on it's markets. The issue of this political cartoon was that china was being fought about for trade. The cartoonist's message is that china is very valuable and should be handled by an important person (uncle SAM).Some other opinions on the open door policy is that it is not fair that we can not make china part of the U.S. The techniques this cartoonist used were exaggeration in uncle Sam's size, and labeling on the place he is standing on(china). This cartoon really made me question if American-Imperialism is OK.
The Purchase of Alaska
The purchase of Alaska is an event were the U.S bought "Russian America" as their "territory". The issue of this political cartoon is that Alaska was not useful. The cartoonist's message on this issue is that Alaska was a big hunk of ice. Some other people's opinion's for Alaska is that it is very useful and has many resources, which is true later on.Some techniques this cartoonist used was labeling on Alaska and symbolism in the bag of money the guy in the background carries. The cartoonist made this pretty persuasive that this was a bad thing and not good, even though this about American -Imperialism it dos not make me fell any hate for Imperialism in general. This is why the purchase of Alaska was taken for granite.
